We woke up bright (ok, so I wasn't so bright when I woke up that morning) and early (definately early) on Sunday so we could go to the Gaya Street Sunday Market. The tour guide yesterday mentioned that the market starts as early as 0430hours in the morning, and ends roughly around 1300hours. The best time to go would be before 0800hours to allow us shopping time out of the brilliant sun. We made it there, somewhat, before 0800hours - had our breakfast there too!
By the time we headed back to the apartment, I bagged a light blue with gold motif batik pareoh, a handmade dried-leaves photo album (to print my Sabah trip photographs, to be shared with my family), some handmade coconut husk and sea-shell jewelry, and some souveniers for friends back in Singapore.
We sure made a fool of ourselves - lugging our wares from the apartment to the lodge by foot. Won't be surprised if someone actually took a snapshot of us crossing the mainroad with this large red hardcase, wondering where on earth could we be going! Hahahaha... fun times.....
Anyhow, we made it to the lodge in under 20 mins, settled down in our rooms, and proceeded to get our hands on our rented vehicle. The whole thing was quick, and we were out of there within the next hour. The came the most stupidest part of the day - looking for this cultural centre that had no directional signs from the main roads. I mean, duh~, if you had this place where your main source of income was from idiots like us visiting your home, you'd probably invest in a sign or two to direct people to your house... right? Wrong. No signs - that is until we got there..
Those people that man the counters obviously aren't aware of Malaysian traitors like me, whom have a foreigner boyfriend. I just flashed them my MyKad - and they just wrote a receipt for 4x Malaysians. And just like that, ZhiWei saved RM20! (Malaysians pay RM45, while foreigners pay RM65 for entry). We had great fun at the cultural village - soon forgetting how hard it took us to even find it in the first place. We ended the day with a photography session with us in Kadazan-Dusun attire.
Dinner was a trip to Little Italy. I've heard good reviews about the place, so we decided to give it a try. Conclusion: minus the pizza and the ice-cream, I think I may have ordered the wrong item. Either that, or pastamania makes better pasta. Seriously.
